INNO3D GEFORCE FX 5200 ULTRA
"Inno3D GeForce FX 5200 Ultra Review testing the Inno3D GeForce FX 5200 Ultra against the MSI GeForce4 Ti4200, XFX GeForce FX 5200 and the Sapphire Radeon 9200. Software used during testing was:- 3dmark 2001 SE, 3dmark 2003, GLexcess, Quake 3 Arena, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Serious Sam SE and Unreal Tournament 2003."

Today we are testing the latest budget video card from Innovision the Inno3D GeForce FX 5200 Ultra. This video card uses the NV34 gpu from Nvidia and is clocked much higher than a regular GeForce FX 5200. The GeForce FX 5200 Ultra was released to replace the GeForce4 Ti4200 and to compete against the Radeon 9200 video cards from ATI. The Inno3D GeForce FX 5200 Ultra is a full DX9 video card unlike the GeForce4 Ti4200 which only supports DX8.
In this test we have decided to compare the Inno3D GeForce FX 5200 Ultra against the GeForce4 Ti4200 which is also from Nvidia. To show the performance increase when compared to budget video cards we have also included the Sapphire Radeon 9200 and the XFX GeForce FX 5200.

COMMENT - "This is one of the games based on the Quake engine I was talking about earlier. The MSI GeForce4 Ti4200 is the fastest video card for this game, it seems like the MSI GeForce4 Ti4200 really loves Quake based games."

COMMENT - "Now we are using a game which ISN'T based on the Quake engine and what a mixed result we get especially for the MSI GeForce4 Ti4200. The Inno3D GeForce FX 5200 Ultra is able to win 2 out of the 3 tests and manages to deliver over 60fps in all 3 of the tests. Notice how the MSI GeForce4 Ti4200 does very well in the Elephant Atrium test but then drops below the Sapphire Radeon 9200. The reason for this is because the extreme settings uses anisotropic filtering and as seen earlier the MSI GeForce4 Ti4200 takes a large performance hit with anisotropic filtering enabled."

COMMENT - "Everything now returns to normal with the MSI GeForce4 Ti4200 outperforming the Inno3D GeForce FX 5200 Ultra by quite a large margin. Notice how poorly the Sapphire Radeon 9200 is doing compared to even the XFX GeForce FX 5200."

COMMENT - "This is pretty much the same result as seen in the above ut2003 flyby benchmark. Let's see what will happen if we enable 4x FSAA and 8x Anisotropic filtering."

COMMENT - "All of the video cards are struggling. None of the video cards reach 60fps and only the Inno3D GeForce FX 5200 Ultra even gets to 30fps. The MSI GeForce4 Ti4200 and XFX GeForce FX 5200 are unplayable at all of the resolutions tested. The Sapphire Radeon 9200 was unavailable when we decided to do this test."
|
|
CONCLUSION - "The Inno3D GeForce FX 5200 Ultra offers good anisotropic filtering performance and image quality. The video card was very stable and there are no problems to report. Although it doesn't usually beat the MSI GeForce4 Ti4200 it's performance is still very good and much better than most budget cards. It's DX9 compatibility makes it much more future proof than the MSI GeForce4 Ti4200 and the Sapphire Radeon 9200. All future drivers versions will be optimised for the whole GeForce FX range and performance will most likely increase further."
