COMMENT - "The MSI GeForce 5900 XT starts off strongly with 3dmark 2001 SE and delivers a 14% increase in performance over the MSI GeForce4 Ti4200. With 3dmark 2003 we witness a huge 70% increase in performance for the MSI GeForce 5900 XT. However this was to be expected because the MSI GeForce4 Ti4200 is a DX8 video card and this is a DX9 benchmark so it was unable to run the mother nature game demo which accounts for approx 1000 points. Using Glexcess which unlike 3dmark is an opengl benchmark the MSI GeForce 5900 XT delivers a 37% increase in performance which once again is very impressive."

COMMENT - "The MSI GeForce4 Ti4200 puts in a good performance so the MSI GeForce 5900 XT was only able to deliver between a 4% to 17% increase in performance. However once we enable things like anti-aliasing the MSI GeForce 5900 XT is 56% faster and with anistropic filtering also enabled it's an impressive 60% faster."

COMMENT - "When using standard features the MSI GeForce 5900 XT is between 6% to 52% faster than the MSI GeForce4 Ti4200, with 4xAA and 8xAF the MSI GeForce 5900 XT is between 74% to 83% faster which is VERY impressive."

CONCLUSION - "The MSI GeForce4 Ti4200 used to be a decent video card and even today can keep up with most video cards below in it's price range. The problem with the MSI GeForce4 Ti4200 is the poor anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering performance, this can be seen clearly in the Unreal Tournament 2003 4xAA with 8xAF results. The AMD Athlon XP 2500 used in this review would be a good cpu to use with the MSI GeForce4 Ti4200, anything more powerful would be a waste and would offer little performance increase. The MSI GeForce 5900 XT however is very different, it was being held back by the AMD Athlon XP 2500 and has alot more performance to give when used with a more powerful cpu."
