COMMENT - "The GeForce4 Ti4600 starts off very strongly and is playable at all resolutions using low quality settings. However when medium quality settings are used performance drops between 66% to 71%, things get even worse when using high quality settings and the GeForce4 Ti4600 is unplayable at all resolutions. We investigated the huge performance drop with using medium and high quality settings and found that the cause is the shadows option. When we turned that option off the performance increased by between 32% to 55% making even the high quality settings playable."

COMMENT - "The GeForce4 Ti4600 started well with Xpand Rally but once again the GeForce4 Ti4600's poor shadow performance reduced it's performance at medium and high quality. The GeForce4 Ti4600 was playable at all of the resolutions using low quality, using medium quality the GeForce4 Ti4600 only offered playable performance at 1024x768 and maringal playability at 1024x768 and using high quality it only offered marginal playability at 800x600."

CONCLUSION - "Although the GeForce4 Ti4600 is showing it's age especially with modern software there is only one game we found that the GeForce4 Ti4600 was incompatible which was Starship Troopers because it's DX9 only. In this article we have benchmarked the GeForce4 Ti4600 using a total of 23 games and the only game which was not playable was Chronicles of Riddick because of the extensive use of shadows. Some of the other games which also used shadows in the medium and high quality settings also resulted in the same performance hit which is easily fixed by disabling shadows."
Using other benchmark results the GeForce4 Ti4600 was 12% faster than the GeForce4 Ti4200, 28% faster than the GeForce 6200 Turbo Cache, 65% faster than the GeForce 5200!"
