"Today we are looking at the AMD Sempron 2600 which is a budget processor in the Sempron range. The AMD Sempron 2600 has some differences compared to the Sempron 3100 also featured in this review, the first difference is that the Sempron 2600 is a full 64bit processor unlike the Sempron 3100 used in this review which has 64bit disabled, the second difference is that the Sempron 2600 processor has a 128K Level 2 Cache while the Sempron 3100 has a 256K Level 2 Cache and the third difference is that the Sempron 2600 runs at 1.6Ghz compared to 1.8Ghz with the Sempron 3100."

AMD SEMPRON 2600 REVIEW

AMD SEMPRON 2600

GENERAL SYSTEM INFORMATION

PROCESSOR AMD SEMPRON 2600
AMD SEMPRON 3100
VIDEO CARD MSI GEFORCE 6600 GT
NVIDIA DRIVER FORCEWARE v84.21 WHQL
MOTHERBOARD GIGABYTE K8NS PRO
MEMORY 2 x 512MB OCZ GOLD XTC PC3200 DDR
OPERATING SYSTEM WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK 2
DIRECTX VERSION v9.0c

NOTE - THE SEMPRON 3100 WILL OFFER BETTER PERFORMANCE THAN THE SEMPRON 2600 BECAUSE THE ONLY ADVANTAGE THE SEMPRON 2600 HAS IS IT'S LOWER PRICE, THIS IS WHY WE WILL BE JUDGING THE SEMPRON 2600 ON IT'S PRICE TO PERFORMANCE RATIO. THERE IS A 28% DIFFERENCE IN THE COST OF THE PROCESSORS USED IN THIS REVIEW AND IF THE DIFFERENCE IN PERFORMANCE IS LESS THAN 28% BETWEEN THEM THEN IT WILL BE CONSIDERED TO BE A VICTORY FOR THE SEMPRON 2600.

COMMENT - "The Sempron 2600 has a good start and although it finishes 11% slower than the Sempron 3100 using 3dmark 2001 SE it's considered a victory for the Sempron 2600 because the Sempron 3100 is 28% more expensive than the Sempron 2600. The results for 3dmark 2003 and 2005 are included just for comparison because they show very little difference due to processor performance."
