S3 CHROME 400

S3 CHROME S27
(05/06) S3 CHROME S27 PCI EXPRESS REVIEW AT PC STATS - " The S3 Chrome S27 PCI Express videocard specs look quite appealing on paper, it has everything a decent graphics accelerator boasts these days; a 90nm manufactured silicon core, eight pixel rendering pipeline, 128MB GDDR3 memory and dual monitor outputs. The unit PCSTATS received for review also included a component output splitter cable, so this compact little PCI Express x16 S3 Chrome S27 can be used in Home Theatre PC's."
(05/06) S3 MULTICHROME DUAL-GPU TECHNOLOGY REVIEW AT TECHREPORT - "Before we get to talking about two of 'em, we should probably talk briefly in the singular about the Chrome S27 graphics chip. The S27 is a DirectX 9-class GPU ultimately derived from S3's original DeltaChrome design but enhanced in important ways over the years. S3's latest Chrome silicon includes a native PCI Express interface, 24 bits of precision per color channel throughout the graphics pipeline, and additional registers to speed execution of shader programs. S3 has a lower end version of this GPU called the Chrome S25, but only the S27 has S3's blessing for use in a MultiChrome config."
(05/06) S3 GRAPHICS CHROME S27 INCLUDING MULTICHROME REVIEW AT HEXUS - "Their fastest ever PC graphics hardware, which we're reviewing today in the very piece you're reading, is some distance away from challenging ATI and NVIDIA in the upper echelons of consumer graphics, and that's just on paper. If history is to be believed, on-paper specs don't always mean too much where S3 Graphics products are concerned."
(04/06) S3 CHROME S27 REVIEW AT EXTREME TECH - "Today we're taking a look at the highest-performance card S3 makes—the Chrome S27 with 256MB of RAM. Though this is S3's highest-performance card to date, it only costs about $115 (currently only available in North America through Newegg)."
(12/05) S3 CHROME S27 GRAPHICS PROCESSOR REVIEW AT XBIT LABS - "S3 Graphics again attempts to re-enter the market of graphics cards once again with a new chip that boasts new levels of performance and efficiency. S3 has come a lone way and improved loads of problems with stability, reliability, driver support and compatibility. But has it done enough to create a product that would be loved by consumers?"
(12/05) S3 GRAPHICS CHROME S27 REVIEW AT HOT HARDWARE - "Today, we present to you S3's Chrome S27 graphics card, which is one of three new Chrome S20 series models that aim to compete in the budget class graphics sector. Targeting the $100 market, S3 looks to deliver a solid offering with low power consumption, competitive performance, and support for multi-GPU configurations. With the Chrome S27 being the most powerful of the three new models, S3 aims to hit a home run by offering a balanced graphics card that is competitive in features, price, and performance with other cards in its price range. We've been provided a slew of information from S3 regarding the Chrome S27, which we've filtered through. We'll focus on the key salient points in this review, along with the card's performance profile in a number of situations."
(11/05) S3 CHROME S25 & S27 TECHNOLOGY REVIEW AT TECHSPOT - "The new Chrome S GPUs were developed in part with technology from Fujitsu, which has allowed S3 to bring a card that is already low on heat and power consumption. On top of that, they maintain a low transistor count for the GPU as a whole - not fantastic for performance, but very good on the heat generated, both during load and when idle; even at high clock rates, with 50 to 70 million transistors for the GPU."
S3 GAMMACHROME
(04/05) CLUB3D S3 GAMMACHROME S18 PRO REVIEW AT BEYOND3D - "With VIA Technologies having purchased the remnants, S3 marked their return to graphics with their DeltaChrome series. The introduction of DeltaChrome was in itself a fairly impressive achievement as it heralded DirectX9 compliance with Shader Model 2.0 capabilities, at a time where it looked increasingly as though only ATI and NVIDIA would have the resources to implement such functionality."
(04/05) S3 GAMMACHROME S18 PRO REVIEW AT XBITLABS - "GammaChrome S18 Pro and GammaChrome S18 CE – differing in the clock rates and the amount of graphics memory on board. The senior, S18 Pro model is expected to carry 256MB of memory and work at 400/300 (600DDR) MHz frequencies; the junior, S18 CE model comes with 128MB of memory and works at 300/300 (600DDR) MHz. The GammaChrome S18 Ultra version that we have previously mentioned on our site is missing in this list."
(03/05) S3 GAMMACHROME S18 REVIEW AT XBITLABS - "GammaChrome boasts very contemporary features although it belongs to relatively inexpensive mainstream solutions. Its major technical specifications, such as working frequency and number of pipelines correspond to those of ATI RADEON X600 XT. However, unlike the ATI product, the new solution from S3G boasts a number of additional attractive features."
S3 DELTACHROME
(12/05) CLUB3D S3 DELTACHROME S8 REVIEW AT ULTIMATE HARDWARE - "Club3D S3 Deltachrome S8 review also featuring MSI GeForce4 Ti4200, XFX GeForce 5200 and XFX GeForce MX 4000. We will also be testing the Deltachrome against the S3 Savage 2000 and S3 Savage4 to see how much of an improvement the Deltachrome is to the previous S3 video cards."
(10/05) S3 DELTACHROME S8 PREVIEW AT ULTIMATE HARDWARE - "S3 Deltachrome S8 review showing the performance of the S3 Deltachrome using software such as 3dmark 2001 SE, 3dmark 2003, 3dmark 2005, Comanche4, Far Cry, Quake 3 Arena, Serious Sam SE and Unreal Tournament 2004."
(07/04) S3 DELTACHROME S4 PRO REVIEW AT TECHREPORT - "The DeltaChrome S4 brings S3's DirectX 9-class shaders and component HDTV output to lower price points, but is the DeltaChrome S4 fast enough to take on ATI and NVIDIA's low-end offerings?"
(07/04) S3 DELTACHROME S4 PRO PERFORMANCE REVIEW AT FIRINGSQUAD - "S3 plans to bring their DeltaChrome technology first found in the S8 and S8 Nitro down to the value segment with their S4 family. With the window of opportunity still wide open in this space, and S4’s aggressive pricing and capable feature set, S3 hopes to put a solid dent in the 3D market, but does the S4 have enough gusto to challenge more established players like ATI and NVIDIA?"
(07/04) S3 DELTACHROME S4 PRO REVIEW AT HOTHARDWARE - "The S4 has all of the same features of the eight-pipeline DeltaChrome S8 we previewed back in March, but it has only four pixel pipelines. S3 may not be combating the likes of ATi or NVIDIA at the high end with the S4, but they hope to gain a foothold in the entry-level space, with an inexpensive feature-rich product that's competitive at the low end."
(07/04) DELTACHROME S4 Pro: S3 GRAPHICS ENTRY-LEVEL OFFSPRING AT XBITLABS - "S3 Graphics has finally uncovered its graphics processor for entry-level market segment that will be opposed to integrated chipsets along with low-end graphics cards. The DeltaChrome S4 Pro inherited all the capabilities found in the more advanced S8 chip, but is it enough to become the king of the entry-level market?"
(03/04) S3 DELTACHROME S8 NITRO REVIEW AT FIRINGSQUAD - "S3 has two DeltaChrome S8 variants, S3 S8 and S3 S8 Nitro, with the Nitro part running at higher clock speeds for the core and memory. S3 has increased the S8 Nitro’s clock frequencies since our last article, Nitro will now ship at 325MHz core and memory (an increase of 10MHz), while S3 is still aiming for 300MHz core and memory for the S8."
(03/04) S3 DELTACHROME S8 NITRO REVIEW AT TECHREPORT - "The DeltaChrome is an all-new GPU from S3, a former player in the graphics biz that's back in the game after a longish hiatus. DeltaChrome is a true DirectX 9-class graphics part, with support for floating-point pixel formats and pixel shader revision 2.0. Despite the fancy 3D features, S3 is adamant that the DeltaChrome isn't intended to rule the benchmarks—that is, we all know, a very tough thing to do against the likes of NVIDIA and ATI. The DeltaChrome should provide a solid gaming experience, though, and S3 hopes its 2D and video features will help it carve out a chunk of the market for itself."
(03/04) S3 DELTACHROME S8 NITRO REVIEW AT HOTHARDWARE - "On paper, DeltaChrome seems to have what it takes to be a winner. The 'S8' models sport eight DX9 class pixel pipelines, just like ATi's R3x0 line of GPUs, and they fully support Pixel and Vertex Shader 2.0 specifications. We all know that paper specs certainly aren't what push polygons, however. We need hardware in our hands to draw any kind of meaningful conclusion. So, today on HotHardware, we're going to take two pre-production DeltaChrome evaluation cards for a spin, to see just how far S3 has come with DeltaChrome."
(03/04) S3 DELTACHROME S8 NITRO REVIEW AT XBITLABS - "S3 Graphics is back and is rolling-out a yet another graphics processor today. The new chip is based on the same DeltaChrome S8 architecture X-bit labs readers are already familiar with. But the newcomer is fueled with some additional clock-speed power. Will the new DeltaChrome S8 Nitro crash competitors and get a throne in the mainstream market?"
(03/04) S3 DELTACHROME S8 NITRO REVIEW AT EXTREMETECH - "When we got a hold of the DeltaChrome S8, S3's first new 3D GPU in five years, we were reasonably impressed with it in our preview. However, it was clear that S3 still had a lot of legwork to do on both its Direct3D and OpenGL drivers. Since we ran that story in December of 2003, cards using the DeltaChrome S8 still haven't shipped -- though, according to S3, their release is imminent. Meanwhile, the company is readying its next GPU, a speed-binned version of the S8 called the S8 Nitro, offering the same architecture with higher engine and memory clocks."
(01/04) S3 DELTACHROME S8 REVIEW AT HEXUS - "S3, a name that is a blast from the past, intend to change the status quo. Users may have fond memories of S3 as an innovator (S3TC texture compression) and manufacturer of decent GPUs up until the year 2000. NVIDIA's GeForce range took graphical processing to a new level and ATI subsequently got back in the power game with its Radeon 8500 GPU. S3 fell by the wayside, unable to compete, and was swallowed up by none other than VIA. So it was a pleasant and unexpected surprise to hear that S3 planned on releasing a midrange DX9-compliant 3D accelerator under the banner of DeltaChrome. Projected to compete with both ATI and NVIDIA low-to-midrange DX9 offerings, a pricing sector where each company sells GPUs by the proverbial bucketload, the DeltaChrome could be a definite turning point for S3's graphics fortunes."
(12/03) S3 DELTACHROME S8 PERFORMANCE REVIEW AT FIRINGSQUAD - "It has nearly been one full year since we first brought you details of S3’s DeltaChrome. First slated for arrival at the end of the 2nd quarter of this year, slowly but surely the release date has been pushed back further and further. Fortunately for S3, that wait is about to come to an end, but not just yet. S3 and its board partners are busy qualifying the final board design, as well as working on the graphics drivers, but S3 recently supplied us with an engineering sample of a prototype S8 board and an early video driver."
(09/03) A LOOK AT S3'S DELTACHROME AT TECHREPORT - "S3 Graphics is back with a new chip, dubbed DeltaChrome, which looks like it might just be strong enough to become a player in the mid-range consumer graphics market. I've seen the A0 silicon, first spin of the chip, running games like Unreal Tournament 2003 and the Chrome demo well enough to convince me the thing has potential. Real potential."
