S3 SAVAGE 2000
(06/02) INNO3D S3 SAVAGE 2000 REVIEW AT ULTIMATE HARDWARE - "Inno3D S3 Savage 2000 review also featuring the Videologic VividXS Kyro 2. Software used was:- 3dmark 2001 SE, GLexcess, Max Payne, Quake 2, Quake 3 Arena and Serious Sam."
(04/00) DIAMOND VIPER II REVIEW AT DANS DATA - "The Viper II uses S3's Savage 2000 chipset. It is, at the moment, the only card that does; S3 and Diamond merged, and nobody else has been given the chipset, while lots of companies make NVIDIA chipset cards."
(03/00) DIAMOND VIPER II Z200 REVIEW AT TECHSPOT - "The Diamond Viper II Z200, with its Savage 2000 chip, is a 4th generation board sporting features like S3’s popular S3 texture compression, hardware transform and lighting, 32 MB of RAM and tremendously high fill rates. In fact, The Viper II has proven to have one of the highest fill rates around for a video board, but is it a true performer?"
(02/00) DIAMOND VIPER II REVIEW AT XBITLABS - "Today we are going to make a thorough analysis of S3 Savage2000 chip against the background of graphics cards basedon GPU NVIDIA GeForce 256 successfully selling all over the world. Let's find out if Diamond Viper II Z200 can competewith them especially taking into account their price."
(02/00) DIAMOND VIPER II Z200 REVIEW AT PLANET SAVAGE - "The Savage2000 has lots and lots of features as did the Savage3D and the Savage4 but the sad truth is that not all of these features really work. Missing are DX7 drivers, T&L implementation and some features like Full-Scene Anti-Aliasing and Anisotrophic Filtering. The current driver set has the T&L (not the final version) which could be turned on with a simple registry string. The Savage2000 also fails to do 'true trilinear filtering' and equally missing is the free trilinear."
(01/00) DIAMOND VIPER II SAVAGE 2000 REVIEW AT GAMEPC - "The Savage2000 chipset is teamed with 32 megs of 6NS SDRAM (166 MHz), which is in an 8x4 chip configuration. The Savage2000 chipset actually has support for 64MB, leaving breathing room for a Savage2000 + version later on. Thanks to the updated 0.18 micron die process that was used to manufacture the Savage2000, the card is one of the only boards currently on the market without onboard active cooling (heatsink/fan). The simple black heatsink runs the card fine, and it remained perfectly stable throughout our benchmarking."
(12/99) S3 DIAMOND VIPER II REVIEW AT THG - "The Viper II is based on S3's latest chipset a .18 micron package that is supposed to offer on-board Transform & Lighting (T&L), hardware texture compression (S3TC), single-pass quad texture blending, hardware assisted DVD playback (through motion compensation and 16-tap upscaling/downscaling) and a reasonable price tag of $199.00 (USD). The board is running at 125 MHz core and 155 MHz memory speeds that are much lower than the anticipated 200MHz speeds that were rumored to be released."
(11/99) S3 SAVAGE 2000 PREVIEW AT THG - "I was recently given the opportunity to take a first look at the Diamond Viper II (Savage 2000 based board) at the S3 campus in Santa Clara, Ca. S3 threw a small party to celebrate the introduction of the S2000 by inviting members of the press to play and test S2000 while there. Although not as optimal having the board in our own lab, I gladly took them up on the offer to get hands on experience with this newcomer. I planned to take some time to play with S2000, talk with some friendly PR folks/engineers and run some early benchmarks. I'll keep the very technical descriptions and performance breakdown for when we actually have a released board for a no holds barred review."
(11/99) DIAMOND VIPER II REVIEW AT ANANDTECH - "The Savage 2000 architecture is quite flexible in terms of what it can do with that fill rate. The actual clock speed of the core is 125MHz, meaning that the 500 megatexels/s number is obtained by quadrupling that clock speed, meaning that the chip itself is capable of processing four texels per pass. The QuadTexture Engine allows the Savage 2000 to apply four textures to a single pixel, as the name implies, or two textures to two pixels."

(05/00) PINE S3 SAVAGE4 AGP REVIEW AT PCSTATS - " With the big $443 CDN ($300 USD) video cards hogging the spotlight recently, I've decided to throw a budget video card into the fray. Today's lucky contestant comes in the form of a $69 CDN ($47 USD) S3 Savage 4GT powered, "Pine, S3 Savage4 AGP" card."
(10/99) DIAMOND STEALTH III S540 SAVAGE4 PRO REVIEW AT ULTIMATE HARDWARE - "Diamond Stealth III S540 Savage4 testing on a AMD Duron 750Mhz and JETWAY 663AS Pro. Software used was PC Player Direct3D, Quake 2, Quake 3 Arena and Wintune 1997."
(10/99) DIAMOND STEALTH III S540 SAVAGE4 PRO REVIEW AT ULTIMATE HARDWARE - "Socket 7 video card review featuring the AMD K6 2 processor, Gigabyte GA-5AA and the following video cards. Diamond Stealth III S540 Savage4, STB Velocity 4400 Nvidia TNT, STB 3DFX Voodoo3 2000 and Palit Daytona GeForce2 MX video card."
(10/99) JETWAY WONDER 4000 SAVAGE4 PRO 32MB SDRAM REVIEW AT PLANET SAVAGE - "At first I was apprehensive in buying this card. JETWAY was not widely known for quality. Being a Taiwanese company, it is considered to be an OEM brand. Being the cheapskate that I am, I bought it J. There are actually three versions of the Wonder 4000. There are LT, GT and PRO versions of the Savage. Only the LT comes with SGRAM. Like all Savage4-based cards, the Wonder 4000 has lots of features."
(10/99) DIAMOND STEALTH III 540 XTREME REVIEW AT SHARKYEXTREME - "Their Savage 4 Pro powered Diamond Stealth III 540 was good enough to earn an overall score from us of eight back in May. Now they've whipped up a faster card using the Savage 4 Pro Xtreme chip, with surprisingly high 160MHz graphics clock and 166MHz memory frequency. This is a nice bump up from the regular Stealth III 540's 125MHz graphics clock and 143MHz memory frequency. The Xtreme also has an even more surprisingly low price of $99 after a $30 rebate, which is the same price as the original. We decided to put the Xtreme to the test to see how good the "low-end" has gotten."
(09/99) DIAMOND STEALTH III 540 XTREME REVIEW AT FIRINGSQUAD - "S3 has already conceded the race with the current generation of 3D accelerators. The Savage 4 was based on the Savage3D, and S3 knows that the Savage3D architecture just can't compete with the Voodoo 3 and the TNT2. The Savage 4 Pro Xtreme will be S3's last chip based on the Savage3D architecture. They just wanted to squeeze one last card out for the budget market before moving onto the Savage2000."
(09/99) DIAMOND STEALTH III 540 XTREME REVIEW AT THG - "Most of us are familiar with Savage4 based graphics products. We talked about the Diamond Stealth III S540 in our huge "32 Graphic Card Meltdown - Part One" and "Part Two" . Basically, the only difference between the S540 and the S540 Xtreme is the core & memory clocks."
(09/99) A-TREND ATC3970 SAVAGE 4 PRO REVIEW AT SHARKYEXTREME - "Today Sharky Extreme sets out to determine if the A-Trend ATC3970 Savage4 Pro-based video accelerator can live up to the Savage4's promise of acceptable performance for a great price."
(08/99) DIAMOND STEALTH III 540 REVIEW AT HARDWARE ZONE - "Diamond Multimedia, a company reknown for its multimedia products has a new addition to its Stealth family. The Stealth III S540. This card is based on the S3 Savage4 Pro chipset, the last card we saw bearing the Stealth badge was the Stealth II G460 which was based on the Intel i740 chipset."
(08/99) ELSA WINNER II 3D SAVAGE4 REVIEW AT ITREVIEWS - "The Winner II uses S3's much-improved Savage 4 chipset. Aimed unashamedly at the budget end of the market, the Savage 4 is, nonetheless, a modern 3D chipset which includes all the main features required by cutting-edge 3D games supporting the OpenGL and Direct 3D hardware accelerated standards. Elsa has used a higher-performance version of the Savage 4 which is distinguished by the 'Pro' label. This means it has faster memory and tests indicate this delivers a slight but noticeable edge in performance over the standard model. That said, S3 has just announced an even faster Savage 4 Xtreme chipset."
(05/99) CREATIVE 3DBLASTER SAVAGE4 REVIEW AT XBITLABS - "We tested this S3 Savage4 based graphics card not only with Intel Pentium III, but also with AMD K6-2. That'swhy we feel ready to answer all your questions concerning S3 Savage4 performance."
(05/99) CREATIVE 3DBLASTER SAVAGE4 REVIEW AT LOST CIRCUITS - "S3 is a good example that sometimes the lack of success can force a re-evaluation of the current strategies followed by a radical change in order to squeeze out the maximum of currently available resources. These resources may not even have popped up just recently but been around for quite some time while they were neglected as long as a successful line of products did not force their extensive use."
(05/99) S3 SAVAGE4 PRO REVIEW AT ANANDTECH - "The Savage4 builds on the stack of the Savage3D's original features, adding such important features as single-pass multi-texturing and bringing back the old strengths of the Savage3D such as the texture compression that filled so many screen shots last year. As with most other 3D accelerators that are just now hitting the streets, the Savage4 provides compatibility with both AGP 2X and 4X specifications."
(04/99) DIAMOND STEALTH III 540 REVIEW AT XBITLABS - "As we can see this card is based on S3 Savage4 Pro chipset, which differs from Savage4 only by higher working frequencies (143MHz compared to 125MHz Savage4). The card has 16MB SDRAM 7 ns of memory placed on both sides of the card (4 modules on each side). Unlike plenty of other graphics cards, Diamond Stealth III S450 has a special plug, which allows to display information on LCD-monitors."

(04/00) ASUS V3100T SAVAGE3D SGRAM REVIEW AT PLANET SAVAGE - "The first of the Savage series of graphics cards, the Savage3d paved the way for S3's entrance into the 3d graphics foray. Having the same features of a Voodoo 2 (except glide) but at the fraction of the cost, it was a good choice for buyers who were trying to find the best bang for the buck. Plauged with buggy drivers, the Savage3d only found its way into the hands of forgiving individuals who painstakingly experimented for tweaks. But now the drivers have matured somewhat and with the emergence of the Savage4 and the Savage2000 series, the Savage3d faces extinction. New applications and games have cropped up that would be more than enough to choke this card. Let us see what the Savage3d can do at the present."
(10/99) HERCULES TERMINATOR BEAST SAVAGE3D REVIEW AT ULTIMATE HARDWARE - "Hercules Terminator Beast Savage3D tested on a AMD Duron 750Mhz and JETWAY 663AS Pro. Software used was PC Player Direct3D, Quake 2, Quake 3 Arena and Wintune 1997."
(09/99) BEST VIDEOCARD FOR SUPER 7 REVIEW AT ACE'S HARDWARE - "After a bit of a hassle, I managed to get an ASUS TNT, a Hercules Savage 3D, a Creative labs Voodoo2, and a Matrox G200. A good friend of mine delivered me some banshee benchmarks (Guillemont Phoenix). Belgium is ASUS world, so don't be surprised when you look at the rest of the benchmarking machine."
(01/99) HERCULES TERMINATOR BEAST SUPERCHARGED REVIEW AT FIRINGSQUAD - "The Hercules Terminator Beast Supercharged is the newest member of Hercules' Terminator family. Based on the aforementioned Savage3D chip, the card offers features and performance comparable to the newest 3D accelerators such as the Rage128 and TNT."
(10/98) AOPEN 3D NAVIGATOR PA70 SAVAGE3D REVIEW AT ANANDTECH - "The Savage3D is a totally redesigned chipset from S3, boasting AGP 2x, 24bit graphic rendering, advanced texture compression and more. As a result, many manufacturers are beginning to see light in the new Savage3D chipset."
