NVIDIA GEFORCE3 VS SAPPHIRE 9000 PRO

"The Nvidia GeForce3 is tested against the Sapphire Radeon 9000 Pro, the Nvidia GeForce3 GPU is made by Nvidia and the Radeon 9000 Pro is made by ATI. We will answer the question is the Nvidia GeForce3 or Sapphire Radeon 9000 Pro faster? We will be using a collection of software including 3dmark 2001 SE, Quake 3 Arena, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Serious Sam - SE and UT2003."

"The NVIDIA GeForce3™ family of graphics processing units (GPUs) shakes up the gaming industry with unprecedented visual effects and sizzling frame rates—injecting life into the previously artificial world of computer-generated graphics. Powered by the new NVIDIA nfiniteFX™ Engine and Lightspeed Memory Architecture, the GeForce3 Ti 500, GeForce3 Ti 200, and original GeForce3 GPUs enable users to experience a rich environment instead of just looking at it on a computer screen."

"The nfiniteFX Engine - With the nfiniteFX engine's programmability, games and other graphics-intensive applications can offer more exciting and stylized visual effects. Vertex and Pixel Shaders are two patented architectural advancements that allow for a multitude of effects."

"3D Textures - A new teachnology that is part of the nfiniteFX Engine, 3D textures make hollow objects solid with true three-dimensional material properties such as wood grain or marbling."

"Shadow Buffers - Another new feature of the GeForce3 Titanium series, shadow buffers create realistic shadow effects in real time. Enables self-shadowing for characters and objects, and softens the edges of shadows for realistic effects, adding depth to scenes and highlighting spatial relationships between objects."

COMMENT - "Return to Castle Wolfenstein is more CPU demanding than Quake 3 and appears to favour the Sapphire Radeon 9000 Pro which proved that it's too strong for the Nvidia GeForce3 beating it by 4%."

NVIDIA GEFORCE3 SAPPHIRE RADEON 9000 PRO

COMMENT - "When playing Unreal Tournament 2003 there is only one video card for this game and that is the Nvidia GeForce3. The Sapphire Radeon 9000 Pro is outperformed at all resolutions and at the highest resolution it loses by 33%."

CONCLUSION

"The Nvidia GeForce3 usually outperformed the Sapphire Radeon 9000 Pro however there were some exceptions such as Return to Castle Wolfenstein. The Nvidia GeForce3 is a very strong video card which delivers very good performance especially with games like Quake 3 and UT2003. The Sapphire Radeon 9000 Pro has certain benefits which include twice the memory as the Nvidia GeForce3, the use of Pixel Shader v1.4 compared to v1.1 with the Nvidia GeForce3 and the Sapphire Radeon 9000 Pro SHOULD be faster than the Nvidia GeForce3 due to faster core and memory speeds which makes me believe that the drivers are letting it down. Future ATI drivers will improve the performance of the Sapphire Radeon 9000 Pro but we live in the present and right now the Nvidia GeForce3 is the superior card!"
