|
"This AMD Athlon XP 3200 review also features the AMD Athlon XP 2500 and AMD Sempron 2200. In this review we will be featuring numerous benchmarks such as 3dmark 2005, Nvidia Dawn, Half Life 2, Doom 3, Tribes Vengeance, Warhammer 40,000 - Dawn of War, Xpand Rally, Scrapland, Unreal Tournament 2004, Serious Sam and Quake 3 Arena."
AMD ATHLON XP 3200 AND ATHLON 2500
"The AMD Athlon XP processor model 10 features a seventh-generation microarchitecture with an integrated, exclusive L2 cache, which supports the growing processor and system bandwidth requirements of emerging software, graphics, I/O, and memory technologies. The high-speed execution core of the AMD Athlon XP processor model 10 includes multiple x86 instruction decoders, a dual-ported 128-Kbyte split level-one (L1) cache, an exclusive 512-Kbyte L2 cache, three independent integer pipelines, three address calculation pipelines, and a superscalar, fully pipelined, out-of-order, three-way floating-point engine. The floating-point engine is capable of delivering outstanding performance on numerically complex applications."
AMD SEMPRON 2200
"The AMD Sempron processor model 10 delivers the integer, floating-point, and 3D multimedia performance for highly demanding applications running on x86 system platforms. The AMD Sempron processor model 10 delivers compelling performance for cutting-edge software applications that include high-speed Internet capability, digital content creation, digital photo editing, digital video, image compression, video encoding for streaming over the Internet, soft DVD, commercial 3D modeling, workstation-class computer-aided design (CAD), commercial desktop publishing, and speech recognition. The AMD Sempron processor model 10 also offers the scalability and reliability that IT managers and business users require for enterprise computing."

COMMENT - "The Athlon XP 3200 is a powerful processor offering MMX, 3Dnow, SSE support and operates at 2200 Mhz. The Athlon XP 2500 is the cheaper mainstream version of the Athlon XP Barton running 364 Mhz slower than the Athlon XP 3200 and using a 166 Mhz FSB unlike the 200 Mhz FSB of the Athlon XP 3200. We have included the Sempron 2200 to show the power of the Athlon XP range, the Sempron 2200 is 700 Mhz slower than the Athlon XP 3200 and 336 Mhz slower than the Athlon XP 2500. In real terms the Athlon XP 3200 should be atleast 14% faster than the Athlon XP 2500 and 34% faster than the Sempron 2200 for the Athlon XP 3200 to be good value for money!"

COMMENT - "Notice how the Athlon XP 3200 is clearly ahead of the Athlon XP 2500 and Sempron 2200 which is due to it's use of the 200 Mhz Front Side Bus. The Athlon XP 2500 and Sempron 2200 both use the slower 166 Mhz Front Side Bus which limits their memory performance with this benchmark."
